On Wednesday, October 12 between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm the Jacobus Vanderveer House of Bedminster, NJ, is hosting its annual School Group Tour Day. This fun filled, historic, and educational event is FREE to school groups.
This year our guest performer, Baron Friedrich von Steuben, portrayed by Bob Gleason, will capture the attention of your students with his multi-national story. The Baron, who spoke no English, joined Washington at Valley Forge and is known for his improvements in the training and drilling of the continental army. During the winter of 1778-1779, the Baron lived in the vicinity of the Vanderveer House, where he wrote his “Regulations for the Order and Discipline of the Troops.” Students will learn of his eclectic personality and the many ways he contributed to the victory in our war for independence.
Students will also view the circa 1772 Jacobus Vanderveer House, a fully furnished historic house associated with General Henry Knox and the Revolutionary War and visit with three other historic re-enactors that will provide lively, revolutionary performances. We will also have three historic demonstrations outside under a tented area (spinner, weaver, and lacemaker).
Visits last about 1.5 hours and require a reservation.
Attached is a flyer with more information. Reservations are on a first come first serve basis. Please note that transportation is not included. Bus parking is available on site. Reserve your spot now as they fill quickly!
